Connecting people to their environment is not a one dimensional effort to “plug them into nature”. My approach to environmental education and food sovereignty is holistic, embracing the concept of environment as an aggregate which includes our biological, physical (which is both natural and crafted), social, political, economic, and aesthetic environments. These environmental components comprise a system in which each component meshes with the others forming the whole. For too long we have looked at ourselves as apart from Nature instead of being part of Nature. Understanding and embracing this holistic paradigm, that humans are indeed a part of nature and dependent upon each component functioning smoothly for our species to continue to survive and flourish, encourages us to find innovative and creative solutions to the environmental and energy crises we face.
I find my background, as an accomplished grant writer, community outreach coordinator, organic farmer, environmental educator, interpreter, and food sovereignty specialist, has given me an unique skill set; allowing me to create and implement dynamic programming for organizations. Environmental Education/Interpretation and food sovereignty are my passions, leaving my children, grandbears, and future generations a better world is my mission.
